How Network Marketing Works

How network marketing works on the Internet has a rather complex explanation, but can be simply explained to mean “marketing a resource or product with the aid of a network of other agents that are self-employed.”

Together, the network marketer and other marketers have banded together in a like-minded campaign to network their abilities, to work a campaign that is interconnected with everyone pushing for the same results.

Network marketing is also considered multi-level marketing. For very practical purposes, to avoid confusion, this article will be discussing the network marketing model as the multi-level marketing experience.

They are many Internet marketers that believe multi-level marketing to be next to impossible when practiced on the Internet. This assumption is far from the truth. In fact, network marketing seems to be made for the Internet.

Studies have shown that only about 1% of individuals that visit network marketing sites are interested in the business. When this figure is taken as a whole, considering all of the multi-level companies doing business online, the 1% solution is not accurate at all. If it were, there would not be the thousands of multi-level-marketing companies doing business and thriving on the Internet.

Network marketing starts with lead generation. A home based independent distributor needs to generate quality traffic to create their downlines, within the network’s structure. The Network Marketer’s income depends on this.

There are many different methods that are used to generate target leads on the Internet. A website needs to be in place to promote the products and the company. This website needs to be linked to the company’s website so visitors can join the company’s program to become independent distributors, should they choose to do so.

In turn, the network marketer’s website needs to have traffic flowing into it. This is done by submitting their site to all of the major search engines so visitors can find it when using keyword searches.

There are many countless other methods used to direct target traffic to the promotional website. Some of these methods involve email newsletters, article marketing, pay-per-click advertising and outsourcing for paid lead sheets.

These methods are only a few of some of the most popular methods that network marketers will use to drive traffic to their sites to convert prospects into downline distributors. Almost all network marketers use a combination of methods.

The newsletter method is a list building technique that is vital to the success of the network marketer. It is an ongoing process of sending subscribers updates and enticements within the newsletter. This drip method gently pushes the subscriber into joining the program eventually. List building works at converting the leads to a sign up.

Once a hot prospect becomes an independent distributor, it is up to the network marketer to provide all the information about the business to the new distributor. This rookie distributor needs to learn about the products, the compensation plan (in great detail) and begin creating their own lead generating machine to create their own downline so they can become an effective network marketer, too.

Everyone involved with a network market is essentially duplicating proven methods that work so the cycle keeps repeating.

Everyone within the network of the company is pulling for everyone else. A network marketer’s success is shared with everyone else in the downline. A network marketer never feels alone because of all of the support from his sponsor and the company he or she represents.

More than one MLM/Networking Business at a time?

There are people who treat MLM/Networking as a simple math equation. They think, “If I have one MLM/Networking venture, I can make this much profit. So if I take part in 3 MLM ventures, I can make 3 times the profit.” This may sound logical to most people, but the real truth is that MLM does not work that way. Simple multiplication theories definitely do not work here.

Various problems occur when people consider more than 1 Networking opportunity at a time, especially when the person is just starting out and does not know the game too well. The following is a list of some of the commonest problems that people sailing in many MLM boats at the same time are likely to face.

Each MLM opportunity that you take up will take some amount of time in terms of research. You have to know what the MLM business is all about, you have to understand its compensation plan, what its highlights are, where the profits lie and so on. However, when you take up many MLM opportunities all at one go, you are likely to spend less time on researching for each of them.

As a result, you are not going to become the go-to person on any one of them. Your inadequacy of knowledge will definitely reflect poorly when you are with a prospect.
You won’t get a good amount of prospecting time either. If there are 4 MLM opportunities you are dabbling with and a particular occasion occurs when you have to meet 1 prospect for each of them, you can very well understand the confusion involved.

It will also become difficult for you to convince others about a particular opportunity. Since you are not convinced about any of them – that is the reason you took up the other opportunities, isn’t it – you will not be able to convince others too. If your prospect comes to know you aren’t devoted to one opportunity, they are going to have apprehensions about you.

But this point is the most important – when you are too many MLM opportunities on your platter and you get a prospect, you won’t know which opportunity to push to them! You will be at a loss to understand which of your multiple MLM businesses will do the trick of convincing the prospect. You could lose a well-meaning prospect because of a bad choice there.

But that isn’t to say you shouldn’t have multiple MLM businesses at all. You can, but you have to give each of them some nurturing time. Join one, learn the ropes, settle it, and after that think about taking another. That’s the way successful MLM people do it.

How To Generate Cash Flow For Network Marketing Using Affiliate Marketing

I’m sure as a network marketer, you will want these two things more than anything else for your business – more leads and more cash flow for your business.

Let’s talk about cash flow.

You see, getting leads in your business is very important, no doubt. But leads in and of itself that doesn’t transform into money is as useless as window shoppers. Some window shoppers might walk into a shop to checkout your wares, but when nobody is buying your products, you might as well shut down your business because you can’t even pay your monthly rental to keep your business alive.

The network marketing business functions on the same level as opening your own restaurant or a shop:

-    You need to buy products every single month or pay for your monthly auto-ship. Now opportunities with auto-ships may be a double edged sword. You have a commitment to pay monthly but so do your downlines (and that translate into a monthly income for you). A program without an enforced auto-ship is good too, but the volume needs to come in order for your business volume to grow. In essence, you have to spend money to buy products; otherwise, your downline will not do so (duplication).

-    You need to pay for your gas mileage and other fixed expenses. After all, you have to maintain your day to day expenses. Many network marketers get so fired up about their business until they forget that they have to pay their expenses and they quit because they run out of money.

-    You need to invest in training materials as well. That is the only way to move forward as a leader. Books, tapes, CDs, DVDs and seminar tickets are all expensive but worthwhile investments.

Bottom-line, you must have cash flow otherwise you can’t succeed in network marketing.

Let’s explore a way to get cash flow consistently. The first two ways are the most common, while the third way is untapped (mostly by network marketers) and worth exploring.

1.    Recruiting new downlines and getting them to buy starter pack. This is one of the fastest, quick money ways to get cash flow. You can also cash in on their monthly auto-ship and other purchases.

2.    Retailing – you can make a consistent income when you retail your company’s products to your consumers.

3.    Affiliate marketing – this is a very good way to make money from your leads or prospects even if they do not fall into the two categories above.

When you engage in affiliate marketing, your goal as a network marketer is to market a low-cost, generic information product about network marketing. These are information that anyone can use and it has the largest target market due to its low cost and high demand. After all, everyone needs information.

A good affiliate program will pay you anywhere between 40% to 75% for marketing other people’s info products. Even if your prospects do not sign up with you or buy your products, you might as well make money by diverting your leads or traffic there.

At the end of the day, you can make good money by driving search engine traffic, forum traffic, Facebook or MySpace traffic and even bring people to your blog by marketing affiliate products for cash flow to keep your business afloat. Who knows, those customers might even turn into your downlines some day.
